Easter in NYC

Over the Easter break, Ross and I met my family in NYC. They flew in from North Carolina and we took the bus to NYC.

My parents have never been to NYC, so we did all a lot of site seeing. We saw a Broadway Show, Lady Liberty, 911, Empire State Building, and China Town.

It was great seeing my family again. My parents really enjoyed the trip, a lot different from North Carolina though.

Cherry Blossom 10 Miler

Sunday morning Ross and I ran in the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler. The race started at 7:40 am in front of the Washington Monument. There were over 10,000 people running in the race.

The morning of the race was very beautiful, but very crowed. The race went around the monument, tidal basin, and towards the east potomac.

The race took us an hour and thirty minutes to complete. This was a great experience and great training for our upcoming marathon.

Note I made my shirt, in lieu of the North Carolina Championship.

Final Four!!

I have been following UNC all season (since October). I am a huge basketball fan. Before moving to D.C. I lived in Chapel Hill for 2 years.
I am so excited about UNC making it to the Final Four.

We won our last championship in 2005, I am crossing my fingers for WIN this year. This coming Saturday, UNC with play NOVA at 9pm. If we win, we will play next Monday for the National Championship title.

Stay Tuned... GO HEELS!!

Antietam Battlefield

This past Saturday I went to Antietam Battlefield in Maryland. Ross and I spent the day touring and walking all over the battle grounds.

Antietam is about 1 1/2 away from Arlington, it's a beautiful drive. The whole battle took place on about 16 miles of land.

They have done a great job with restoring and the maintenance of the grounds. They have walking, biking, and driving paths you can take. They have several different maps you can use along your exploration.
I would recommend everyone to check this battlefield out. YOU will learn a lot!!

Spring Break comes to an END...

As I wrote earlier, my parents came for the beginning of my Spring Break..

The rest of my break I spent writing my Senior Seminar paper for Dr. Fallon. The paper is due in April, but I wanted to get a jump start. I have choose the topic, "Gender Differences in the Workplace".

The weather was nice towards the end of the week, so I went over the park across the street from my house and worked on my paper there.

Also, last Thursday I had my interview with Pediatric Care (non-profit organization that deals with kids and families that has HIV/AIDS), and I got the internship. I will doing there Event Planning of the Summer, I'm so excited.

Everything is coming together, the weather is getting warmer and only 8 weeks till graduation :)

Back to North Carolina they go....

My parents arrived Friday around 5pm. I gave them a tour of our new house, which they loved. Then Friday night I cooked dinner, pork chops stuffed with pineapples. We just relaxed and played the Wii all night. Saturday morning we went and had brunch at Witlows in Arlington. During the day we went to the Eastern Market, American History Museum, and Air and Space Museum. And yes, we had space ice cream :). Saturday night, we took my parents to dinner at Morton's in Georgetown, it was amazing. They left early Sunday morning due to the weather.
Having my parents in town was awesome. Now, the rest of my spring break will be working on my Senior Seminar Paper.

My Parents Are Visiting...

Tomorrow my parents are driving from North Carolina, to visit for the weekend. I am super excited. Being a small town girl and living 8 hours away from home gets overwhelming at times. Since we just moved, my parents are coming to see and stay at our new house. I haven't seen my parents since Christmas and they have only been to D.C. once. Last time they were here we did a lot of sight seeing, such as the mall area. This time I am taking them out to a nice restaurant and we are going to Georgetown. I'm so excited, it's a great way for me to spend my Spring Break. I'll follow up and post pictures.

Valentine's Weekend

This was Ross and I first Valentine's Days together. Saturday morning we woke up and made breakfast together. We had several errands to run on Saturday such as: Target, Home Depot, and Circuit City.

Before dinner, Ross gave me two dozen roses that were absolutely beautiful!!

Ross had the drinks and the appetizer. He opened a bottle of wine and made homemade tomato basil soup. I had the main course. I made a london broil that I had been marinating over night and diced potatoes. Everything was delicious.

After dinner, we went to a local wine bar near our new house and enjoyed a glass of wine together.

Our first Valentine's Day together was perfect!!

It's getting close...

It's finally here.. Thursday, Ross and I are moving to Arlington, Va. I'm so excited. We have been planning this move for about three months now. The official move in day in Thursday, February 5th.

I do hate moving, but I'm ready to be closer to school, restaurants, and friends. Making the commute everyday from Falls Church, Va has been frustrating. In the mornings, it take me up to an hour to drive about 12 miles.. Needless to say, walking to school will be awesome.

We are moving into a town house close to the Ballston Metro.
We have a big yard, three bedrooms, and 2 baths. Plenty of room for us.
I'll keep you posted with pictures from our new house.

Salsa Lessons..

My boyfriend and I have decided to start taking Salsa Lessons. The first lesson was last night, it was awesome. There is about 20 people in the class with us, mostly couples. We learned the basic (first basic) step yesterday.

The class is 1 hour each Tuesday for 6 weeks. Both of us have been wanting to take a class like this, so we finally got the opportunity.

The instruction is amazing. She has been taking ball room dance lessons for 15 years and teaching ball room for 8 years. She has recently started teaching salsa lessons (3 years). Some of the dance moves she showed us last night were incredible. Hopefully Ross and I will learn a lot!!

26.2

In October of 2008 I accomplished a HUGE goal.. The Baltimore Marathon. If anyone does not know a marathon consists of running 26.2 miles, nonstop. I started my training in March 2008, each week I would increase my mileage. The longest run, three weeks before the marathon was 18 miles.

The first 20 miles of the race were very easy. As they always say the race does not begin until mile 20.. and I agree!! By the end of the race I had blisters on my feet, raw rub marks on my chest and arms, and a fractured foot. Most importantly I crossed the finish line in 4 hours!! Accomplishing the Baltimore Marathon was a great milestone in my life and I cant wait to do the Marine Corp Marathon this year.

New York City

Within the past year, I have been to New York City several times. I have fallen in love with the BIG city :)

This picture was taken about 2 months ago during the 2003 class reunion at the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

My boyfriend graduated from the USMMA in 2003. Since he was in the city for several years he knows his way around the city very well. It always makes for a great trip to NYC.
I have been in the D.C area for a year now.

In 2008 I achieved a lot, my biggest accomplishment the Baltimore Marathon.

I have now entered my Senior year at Marymount University.

In two weeks I will be moving to North Arlington, which I'm really excited about.

I am looking forward to whats ahead in 2009.
